Last updated: 30 September 2026 · Per person, from Dhaka, off-peak.
"Going abroad is too expensive." Usually, it isn't. With ৳70,000 per person, flights included, you can have a proper trip. You just have to be smart about where you go and when.
Below are three countries that fit, with a rough breakdown for each. A quick note on the numbers: flights change every day, so treat these as realistic ranges rather than quotes. We've assumed return economy flights booked 4–8 weeks ahead in the off-season, clean budget hotels shared between two people, local food and public transport, and US$1 ≈ ৳122.
Nepal: the easiest one (5–6 days)
Nepal is the obvious pick for a first trip abroad. The flight is short, and your first visa of the year is free and issued on arrival. Split your time between Kathmandu and Pokhara and you get old temples, lakes and a sunrise over the Annapurnas.
| What | Approx. ৳ |
|---|---|
| Return flight Dhaka–Kathmandu | 25,000 – 32,000 |
| Visa | 0 (first visit in the visa year) |
| Hotel, 5 nights, twin share | 9,000 – 13,000 |
| Tourist bus to Pokhara and back | 2,500 – 3,500 |
| Food, 6 days | 7,000 – 9,000 |
| Sightseeing: Sarangkot sunrise, boating on Phewa | 4,000 – 6,000 |
| Total | ≈ 47,500 – 63,500 |
You'll probably have money left over. Spend it on paragliding in Pokhara or a short Poon Hill trek (see our Nepal trekking guide).
Thailand: Bangkok and Pattaya (4–5 days)
Thailand costs more than Nepal, mostly because of the visa and slightly higher fares, but Dhaka–Bangkok is a competitive route and the country is cheap once you're there. Street food, the BTS and MRT trains and a clean budget hotel keep daily costs low. You'll need the Thailand e-visa first.
| What | Approx. ৳ |
|---|---|
| Return flight Dhaka–Bangkok, off-peak | 30,000 – 40,000 |
| E-visa, fee plus documents | 5,000 – 7,000 |
| Hotel, 4 nights, twin share | 8,000 – 11,000 |
| Bangkok–Pattaya and back | 1,500 – 2,500 |
| Food, 5 days | 5,000 – 7,000 |
| Temples, river boat, Coral Island | 4,000 – 6,000 |
| Total | ≈ 53,500 – 73,500 |
The top of that range goes slightly over ৳70k. The way to stay under is timing: fares are usually lowest from mid-May to September, and highest in December.
Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur plus a day out (4–5 days)
KL is easy. There are frequent flights from Dhaka, halal food everywhere, a metro that works, and a lot of the best sights are free: the Petronas Towers from KLCC Park, Batu Caves and Merdeka Square. Add a day trip to Genting Highlands or Melaka.
| What | Approx. ৳ |
|---|---|
| Return flight Dhaka–Kuala Lumpur | 30,000 – 40,000 |
| eVISA, fee plus documents | 5,000 – 7,000 |
| Hotel, 4 nights, twin share | 8,000 – 11,000 |
| LRT, Grab and a day trip | 3,000 – 4,500 |
| Food, 5 days | 5,000 – 7,000 |
| KL Tower or Aquaria, Genting cable car | 3,000 – 5,000 |
| Total | ≈ 54,000 – 74,500 |
So which one?
If it's your first trip abroad, or you want to stay well under budget, go to Nepal. For shopping, food and a beach, choose Thailand, but travel off-peak. For a family city break with no worries about food, Malaysia is the one.
Seven ways to make ৳70,000 go further
- Book flights 6–8 weeks out, and be flexible by a day or two.
- Avoid Eid, the puja holidays and December.
- Travel in twos. Sharing a room nearly halves the hotel cost.
- If you pack light, take a cabin-bag-only fare.
- Use the metro and buses, not taxis.
- Eat where the locals are eating.
- Carry a dual-currency card and some US dollars.
