This is the route we suggest most often to families who want more than Bangkok and Pattaya. It mixes a little city, a lot of calm, and a few days in the sea. The pace is gentle on purpose. Nobody has to wake up at 5am, and there's a free afternoon every couple of days for naps and the hotel pool.

The shape of the trip

NightsWhereWhy

3Chiang MaiCooler air, mountains, elephants
4Krabi (Ao Nang)Calm beaches and easy island days

Day 1: Arrive in Bangkok

It's a short flight from Dhaka, so you land with most of the day ahead of you. Check in, rest, and keep the evening easy: a walk by the river, or dinner at ICONSIAM, where there is plenty of choice and it's air-conditioned for tired children.

Day 2: Grand Palace, Wat Pho and the river

Go early, before the heat and the crowds. Cover shoulders and knees for the temples. After Wat Pho, take the river boat instead of a taxi; children love it. Afternoon at the hotel, then an evening at Asiatique or a dinner cruise.

Day 3: Fly to Chiang Mai

A domestic flight of roughly an hour. Afternoon in the old city temples, then the Night Bazaar for an easy evening walk and snacks.

Day 4: Elephant sanctuary

The highlight for most families. Choose an ethical sanctuary where you feed and bathe the elephants instead of riding them. It's a half or full day, so keep the evening free.

Day 5: Doi Suthep and a slow afternoon

Drive up to Doi Suthep in the morning for the temple and the view over the valley. In the afternoon, a Thai cooking class works well for teenagers, while grandparents can rest. If your family has energy to spare, you can swap this day for a long day trip to the White Temple in Chiang Rai.

Day 6: Fly to Krabi

Stay in Ao Nang, which is relaxed and walkable, with lots of halal food nearby. Spend the afternoon on the beach and watch the sunset.

Day 7: The 4 Islands by longtail boat

A classic Krabi day: Phra Nang cave beach, Chicken Island, Tup and Poda. The water is calm in season and the snorkelling is easy, so even young swimmers can join with a life jacket.

Day 8: Railay Beach

Railay can only be reached by boat, which makes it feel like an adventure. Lunch there, swim, and head back mid-afternoon. For a quieter alternative, kayak through the mangroves instead.

Day 9: Your choice

Families with teenagers often add a speedboat day to Koh Phi Phi for more snorkelling. With small children or elderly parents, a free day at the pool is usually the better call before the flight home.

Day 10: Fly home

Krabi to Bangkok, then Bangkok to Dhaka. Book a later connection so nobody has to rush.

Before you book

  • Best months: November to April for Krabi. Chiang Mai is cool and pleasant from November to February.
  • Visa: Bangladeshi passport holders need a visa before flying. See our Thailand visa guide, and fill in the TDAC arrival card in the 3 days before you land.
  • Halal food: easy in Krabi, which has a large Muslim community. In Bangkok and Chiang Mai we plan it in advance.
  • Book early for December to February: it's peak season and fares climb fast.
  • Shorter trip? Drop Chiang Mai and do Bangkok (2) + Krabi (4) in 7 days.
